Weekly News Update…

Week 4 Term 2 2013

Apinun!

Week 4 already – it seems like this term is racing by just as quickly as the first one!

Thankyou

A big thank you to Mrs Francis for holding the fort while I was away most of last week. I know the children will have looked after her wonderfully and vice versa.

The course I was at was fantastic, and while the focus was on children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) there were many things that came up that I hope to use to good effect with everyone in the classroom – like not talking as much!!! (Maybe I could apply that to my newsletters too) J

Cross Country

What a shame about the cross country! It is always such a neat afternoon watching our wee guys giving it their all, and looking so pleased with themselves when they cross

that finish line. Everyone cheers on everybody else and there are always high fives all round – so much so that some children forget to keep running! Next year! J

The Big Sad Wolf

This production sounded really cool, and by all accounts it was. I am disappointed I missed seeing it but am pretty sure that I'll find out all about it over the next couple of days.

Plastic bottle tops and Colgate boxes

Thank you for continuing to keep the colgate boxes and plastic lids coming in. Did you know that the docket noting your purchase of the toothpaste counts as a point as well as the actual box? (It might be just me that isn't up with the play!)

Remember also, that the plastic tops can be any colour, shape or size eg fizzy drink tops, milk bottle lids, marmite jar lids etc. We still need lots and lots so keep collecting!

The children in Tui talked and wrote about what they like about rugby! Below are some of their thoughts...

I like the rugby because the All Blacks are funny when they do the haka. They poke out their tongues out when they do the haka. by Becky

I like the haka because the All Blacks do it before they start the game. by Dylan

In rugby I like the haka. When the All Blacks play for New Zealand they get tries. When the All Blacks sing they are good. Go the All Blacks! by Joel

My favourite thing of rugby is the World Cup 2011 because the All Blacks will try to win. They always try their best and it is very important they win. by Becks

In rugby I like the haka and the fireworks. Every team has a turn and the world cup is hard to win. by Levi

In rugby I like Ritchie. He is cool because he is the best player. He might get the rugby world cup. by Josh

Trip to Auckland

As you will have read in an earlier posting I won a trip to Auckland with Duffy and Books in Homes.

Tamati and I left home at 5.15am - yawning all the way to Timaru. We hopped on out first flight at 6am to Wellington. After a bit of a wait in Wellington we boarded flight number two and headed to Auckland. We were met at Auckland by Phil, from Books in Homes, who was our guide for the day.

I was one of five teachers who had been chosen for this special opportunity and while we waited for others to arrive we had a great cup of coffee...

After leaving the airport the day past very quickly. We visited the Scholastic warehouse and were blown away by all the work they do - publishing books, the lucky book orders, book fairs and organising the Duffy books for schools.

At the warehouse there are a large number of books and each of us were lucky enough to be able to choose some for our class... I was able to bring back 45 books and give each member of the class a free book.

By the time we made it back to Waimate and our house it was 8.30pm - a long, tiring but fantastic day!
